Installation request for a centrally managed Aalto workstation Check if the application is available in the self-service portal. If so, request targeting from there. If the application is not available in the self-service portal but needs to be available for several users, and the application is free or includes a license for several users, fill out the software packaging request form.
Software applications for centrally managed Windows, Linux and Mac workstations are mostly installed from automated software deployment. Applications need to be prepared for this by Aalto IT in a process called software packaging. OneDrive allows you store your files in one place, share them with others, and get to them from any device connected to the Internet. Every user at Aalto University gets 5 TB of OneDrive storage for free. This guide helps you get started. Self-service portal is a service where you can request software installations made available by IT to your centrally managed Windows workstation. Some requests need to be approved due to licensing or other restrictions. To use the portal your workstation needs to be attached to your user account and the workstation needs to be connected to Aalto network. After first use you can also use the portal to that workstation with Aalto VPN network connection. Self-service portal only works in staff workstations that are centrally managed on Aalto network.
These instructions describe known problems and solutions for them in the Matlab application. You can start targeted installation of applications and updates for them on centrally maintained Windows workstations whenever this is convenient for you. This can also be done with portable workstations outside of Aalto University’s network provided that the Aalto VPN connection is switched on. This way you can bring the applications up to date, if they have not been updated otherwise.
RefWorks is a service developed for the management of referencing sources that you can use directly from Microsoft Word. The “ProQuest Write-n-Cite for Word” add-in needed for this is distributed to all centrally maintained Windows workstations at Aalto University. The functions are available in Word’s menu, on the RefWorks tab. The instructions below describe the Windows version of Word.
You can open access for your own Windows research workstation via a remote log-in, from your own home computer, for example. The traffic of the remote connection is encrypted, so using it is safe.
