Recover Deleted Items

With the Recover deleted items function you can recover email items (messages, contacts, etc.) that you have permanently deleted from your mailbox. This is possible for 60 days after the deletion. When you delete a message either with the Delete key on the keyboard or the Delete button in Outlook, the message goes to the Deleted Items -folder in which the message will stay until you remove it permanently.

Opening a resource mailbox in Thunderbird

You can add a resource mailbox to Mozilla Thunderbird as a separate account, alongside your personal mailbox. A resource mailbox means a mailbox that is intended for shared use by a community or project, for example. A resource mailbox is also referred to as an organisational mailbox. You can open a resource mailbox via mail.aalto.fi, so you do not have to open it by means of the imap.aalto.fi proxy.

Deploying an Aalto e-mail directory in Thunderbird

Once you have set Mozilla Thunderbird to use Aalto’s e-mail system with IMAP, Aalto’s e-mail directory is not available to you by default, so you cannot retrieve e-mail address of people at Aalto University from an address book. Similarly, when you type an address, Thunderbird is not able to automatically complete Aalto’s e-mail addresses. You can correct this by setting the Aalto mail account you added to Thunderbird to use the Aalto directory, by following the instructions below.

Adding an account in Thunderbird

Microsoft Outlook provides the best user experience when you use Aalto e-mail. However, this application is not available for all operating systems. The options available are to use Outlook’s browser version, Webmail (https://mail.aalto.fi), or Mozilla Thunderbird. Aalto IT can provide support for using Thunderbird by means of a “Best effort” procedure, but using Thunderbird as the primary e-mail application is not recommended.
